Two fully-funded doctoral studentships at the University of Bath, to work with Professor Jane Millar and colleagues. We welcome applications in the following areas.
1. This project will examine the extent and design of means-testing in social security and tax systems, comparing countries with different approaches to social protection systems and the role of means-testing within these. http://www.bath.ac.uk/sps/studentship-modern-means-testing.html
2. This project will explore income variability for families with children in the UK. It will collect income data through two-week income diaries over a time period of at least six months. It will also include expenditure data in the diary, and by collect information on changes in circumstances, such as household composition and employment status. This will enable a detailed analysis of the nature and extent of volatility in income, expenditure and circumstances on a weekly basis. http://www.bath.ac.uk/sps/studentship-tracking-changes-income.html
3. Applications are welcome from well-qualified candidates with a research project that they are seeking to develop. The possible areas are: social security policy, universal credit, welfare-to-work, family policy, poverty. Projects with a focus on gender are of particular interest.
