Her hands, between prayer and defence,
part to succumb to decency;
arms go to her side, hands below.
Her eyes contract with no one.
She looks into a distance,
fingers straight as sunflowers
downwards to the centre of the earth;
but she wobbles on the balls of her feet,
tense, marking time.
