Post-doc Researcher in the Group of Computational Biophysics
The Group of Computational Biophysics at the Physics Department of the University of Cagliari is opening a two-years Post-doc position on timely problems related to multidrug bacterial resistance mediated by efflux systems (more info at www.dsf.unica.it/~paolo/). The position is within the framework of the IMI - ND4BB action (Innovative Medicine Initiative -New Drugs for Bad Bugs, see http://www.imi.europa.eu/content/translocation). The Group is also involved in a second project under the ITN-Marie Curie action (http://cordis.europa.eu/project/rcn/109792_it.html).
Tasks
• MD simulations with standard and biased techniques to study the interaction of specific compounds with bacterial efflux pumps.
• Evaluation of thermodynamics and kinetics parameters associated with the compound-efflux pump interactions.
• Molecular modelling of efflux pumps in their apo form and in complex with compounds.
• Interactions with all research partners of the multidisciplinary project. For further information please contact:
Requirements
• PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Computational biology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Biotechnology.
• Strong publication record in the field of molecular simulation/ molecular modelling.
• Experience in the use of most common molecular modelling/simulation packages (gromacs, amber, namd, modeller,..) and of methods to evaluate free energies.
• Desiderable experience in quantum chemistry methods and hybrid QM/MM codes.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
We offer
• Fixed-term position (2 years).
• Dynamic and productive working environ-ment.
• Interdisciplinary collaboration with world-leading international research groups including scientists of GlaxoSmithKlein, Sanofi-Aventis, Basilea Pharmaceutica Ltd.
