About the day
This meeting is for anyone involved or interested in health professions and clinical education and practice research. This year the meeting will be structured to encourage the development of research collaborations with a particular focus on interdisciplinary teams and approaches.
This year's keynote presentation will be:
'The Life of Breath: interdisciplinary medical humanities in action'
by Professor Jane Macnaughton,<https://s5.newzapp.co.uk/t/gtl_4.aspx?LID=MTA0Njc5NTksODMyNDkyMDMzLDE0> University of Durham.
Jane Macnaughton will talk about her Wellcome Trust funded project, the Life of Breath, which exemplifies a new way of doing medical humanities research.
The project involves wide interdisciplinary engagement between humanities, social science and science scholars whose different approaches to understanding and knowledge production present challenges to the research group but also ensure that new questions can be asked about the nature of breathlessness as a clinical problem and as a problem for those who live with it.
This will be followed by an Expert Panel discussion 'Developing collaborative research projects'. In the afternoon there will be a number of short communications followed by research development workshops. This is an excellent opportunity to exchange information and updates about current research activities and plans. The day is intended to develop networks and support structures for researchers, including linking potential collaborators and encouraging funding applications.
