Hi Mike
At Horniman, we've 'reserved' quite a few non-standard domains, just so nobody else gets them. Never publicised. Most pressing of this is .xxx - we don't want our name (especially) being associated with that.
In September, we launched a site for a Europeana project (Europeana Food and Drink) called Tea Trail London. Its address is www.teatrail.london so using a non-standard domain, but as it is an essential part of its 'brand name', we thought it could work quite well.
About half the visits to it so far come direct, and most of the search terms bringing people to the site are variants on the words 'tea trail London'.
Hope that's helpful.
Adrian

Subject: [MCG] Non-standard domain suffixes
Hi all
Any opinions / further knowledge about using non-standard domain suffixes for websites?
I've read quite a lot which says these "low value suffixes" don't perform well from a SEO pov because they're often marked as spam and also aren't memorable for users.
The particular one I've been asked to look at is .pictures
Thanks
Mike
ps. .museum! remember that?
