Just in case anyone happens to be in the vicinity this afternoon and fancies attending a seminar on digital museum ethics... Or if you are interested in a copy of the paper let me know!
Just a reminder that today's JOMEC research seminar will be given by Dr Jenny Kidd
The seminar title is ‘Digital Museum Ethics' and will take place this afternoon, between 4pm and 5.15pm in Rm 0.05, Bute Building, Cardiff University.
Abstract
Museums in 2015 remain complex cases for the study of media and culture; both structurally and conceptually they have been subject to re-definition in recent years. They are also vibrant sites of experimentation, not least in the digital domain where playfulness in particular has become a key characteristic of many museums’ communications.
This presentation will draw on recent research collaborations to begin to assess some of the ethical dimensions of that practice. It questions the extent to which museums’ current ethical codes and policy structures recognise and allow for playfulness and principles in digital environments.
