As teachers of Chinese, we have all set loads of test questions for our students. Here are some to share:
Chinese test
Explain the difference between the two sentences in each set:
1) 冬天,能穿多少穿多少;夏天,能穿多少穿多少。
2) 剩女产生的原因有两个,一是谁都看不上,二是谁都看不上。
3) 女孩给男朋友打电话:如果你到了,我还没到,你就等着吧;如果我到了,你还没到,你就等着吧。
4) 单身的原因:原来是喜欢一个人,现在是喜欢一个人。
Extension questions:
5) 男人对一个女人有好感的原因,一是喜欢上这个女人,二是喜欢上这个女人。
6) 男人约会迟到的原因,一是睡过了,二是睡过了。
If your Chinese is good, you may find these sentences amusing; if your Chinese is not so good, you may find them confusing. We often say assessing our students’ Chinese under the same criteria as French, Spanish or German is often pathetic – 我昨天去健身,我今天去健身,我明天去健身… they all make sense, knowing how to use 了 or 要 doesn’t prove your Chinese is better. It is ridiculous to hear that the new GCSE Chinese will still put a heavy weight in time frames rather than real content. Of course if our professional argument is not strong enough or our Chinese is not good enough, we’d better go back to teaching our students the importance of ‘verb + 了’, ‘要 + verb’, or the tedious ‘我觉得…’, ‘因为…’
新年快乐!干了!- Write down pinyin with tones, and translate – you may give multiple answers. ;-)
