My client a new and dynamic start up is currently looking for a Lead GIS Engineer to join their team in Scotland.
We are looking for an Engineer so someone familiar with building GIS Systems, not just administering them.
The position:
We are looking for a top-notch GIS engineer to join our elite team to lead the engineering, implementation, and optimisation of our core high-performance spatial data infrastructure, which will leverage the latest distributed parallel computing (CPU- and GPU-based) capabilities to support high throughput processing, storage, analysis and service delivery of vector, raster and streaming sensor data.

We are looking for someone who is: experienced, passionate about GIS and engineering, loves creative problem solving, and stays on the cutting edge of technology.
The requirements on the spec below are quite in depth and the client has been quite clear that they don’t expect candidates to tick all of the boxes below.
• A serious understanding of engineering and architectural best practices and how to make flexible and scalable GIS architecture and software that never fails.
• A genuinely perfectionist attitude to development, tempered by just enough pragmatism.
• 5+ years engineering high performance GIS infrastructure.
• 5+ years Python programming. Also desired are: C++, .NET, R, MATLAB, and IDL.
• 5+ years supporting and/or administering spatial RDBMS - notably PostgreSQL/PostGIS
• 5+ years engineering and administering open source GIS servers including GeoServer.
• 5+ years using geospatial libraries, tools, services and metadata catalogs including: OMAR / OSSIM, OGR,
GDAL, OpenSextant, and OSGEO projects at-large.
• 5+ years standing up, optimising, and maintaining OGC compliant GIS services - including but not limited to WMS, WFS, WCS, WCPS, WCS-T, WTS, etc.
• 3+ years building web-based spatio-temporal data management, analytics and visualisation applications/software using open source technology.
• 3+ years’ experience with web scripting languages/tech such as PHP, Javascript, XML, AJAX, SOAP, etc.
• 3+ years implementing versioned enterprise database solutions with built-in user authentication and data access management solutions,
• 2+ years using QGIS and/or GRASS
• 2+ years raster data compression (eg. Lizard Tech) and caching
• Able to work with Windows and Unix-based (Unix, Mac, Linux) operating systems
• Adhere to S.O.L.I.D. methodologies.
• MSc in computer science, engineering, math, data science, geoscience/GIS or related field
What would really float our boat:
• Data science, scientific, mathematical, graph theory, machine learning, or AI fields of study or experience.
• Experience engineering remote sensing platforms
• GIS integration with graph databases (Neo4J, Spark, etc.)
• MongoDB, Riak, Redis, CouchDB or similar knowledge.
As mentioned above the client is not expecting to tick all of the boxes on the spec above, but a well-rounded and experienced engineer is required.
