Heatherwick studio is looking for a full-time Archive Cataloguer to work in our studio based in King’s Cross. The role is initially offered as a fixed-term six month contract, with the possibility of extension.
This is a new role and serves to support the Archivist with the cataloguing of our historic archive of physical project material, including sketches, photographs, models, material tests, mock-ups, prototypes and ephemeral material.
We are looking for someone with a proven interest in design and architecture, some previous knowledge and experience of archives, with an enthusiastic and outgoing attitude, excellent attention to detail and the ability to be independent and self-motivated. The role would ideally suit someone interested in progressing to a postgraduate qualification in archiving.
The key responsibilities, essential skills and experience required are detailed below:
Responsibilities
• Helping to promote and communicate the aims and standards of the archive to studio members
• Condition-checking, photographing and cataloguing three-dimensional archive material
• Cataloguing and re-packaging 2D archive material stored in plan chests
• Carrying out research into the context and provenance of archive material
• Adding information to the studio’s Access archive database
• Uploading imagery to the studio’s image database and applying key metadata
• Identifying objects in need of cleaning and repair
• Assisting the Archivist with preparing material for transfer to off-site storage
• Re-packaging archive items in conservation-quality material
Skills and Experience
• PC Literate in programmes such as Outlook, Microsoft Office and Photoshop
• Experience of using databases
• Some knowledge and experience of archives
• General knowledge of preservation and conservation issues
• Experience of handling delicate objects
• Experience of carrying out research through a variety of methods
