It's not an official interface, but I think Geoff Hinchcliffe's interface
for Tate's open collections data is fantastic:

- it's a great example of what can happen if data is made available for
re-use, though I think it also helps to have an iconic name and a dataset
that references so many visually interesting objects.
Mitchell Whitelaw's work on 'generous interfaces' is definitely worth a
look http://mtchl.net/.
