Dear sonia and others,
I am a walking woman although i rather see myself as a human being, even though I know women have to deal with different things in the walking than men do. In negative but also positive ways.
I am on a long walk right now, from barcelona to paris, to take part in the activities around the united nations climate conference, cop21.
I walk on my own, with everything i need on my back, i meet people on the road, talk and write about slow and simple ways of being, sustainability, sharing, history, ecology, changing things by individual action and joining forces. I won't be able to walk the full stretch but I walk as much as possible, I left Barcelona on October 15 and hope to arrive in Paris latest December 10.
Right now i sit in the sun, getting warm and drying all my things after being having been caught in a rainstorm in the mountains yesterday late afternoon, crossing the spanish-french border, walking the trail walter benjamin walked into what was supposed to be his freedom but turned into his death. I am walking it into the other direction though. The direction many people went during the Spanish Civil War.
I don't use twitter and I don't like it but if you want to connect in a different way, let me know.
I write on my solar powered iPad most days about my current walk here: www.asoftarmour6.blogspot.com
Many greetings from the road!

> I am setting up a network of women who use walking in their creative and/or academic practice in the hope that we can share and promote our work, highlight opportunities, circulate material of interest and so on. This could lead to a gathering, some walks and perhaps ultimately, more formal academic outcomes for anyone who is interested.
>
> I realise that there are some fine networks out there already - not least this one! - but my purpose is to focus on women's experiences of walking as a practice. I aim to tie this to a (currently forming) research centre at my academic institute, but for now I'd like to get the ball rolling by creating a network on Twitter. I've set up an account with the username @womenwhowalknet . If you are happy to join, please follow the account, and I will reciprocate.
>
> If you know anyone else that may wish to be involved, please let me know or steer them towards the Twitter account.
>
> I realise that Twitter may not be the best vehicle for this long term, but hope it will be a good place to start linking individuals.
>
> Best wishes
