Hello,
I just wanted to add that I do not have a Museum Studies MA and have been working in my current role for three years, I do have an MA and had about 8 years of volunteer experience prior to getting my first Museum role.

Hi Catherine,
From my personal experience it's too competitive a sector to get by without a Museum Studies degree. I did a regular MA and couldn't get past interview stage but got a job as soon as I finished my second MA in Heritage Management so I think people do look for it, and there's more opportunities for internships and career support.
Best,
Claire

Hello,
I’ve received an enquiry
from a 3rd year undergrad about whether she would be better off undertaking an MA in Museum Studies or in History to pursue a career in Social History curating.
She has been advised that
if she goes for the History option then she may still need to undertake a Museum Studies MA later on. In Bristol we ask for Museum Studies or equivalent, so History (or anything else related) would be fine, but
I don’t want to misadvise her if that’s not the case more widely.
Would anyone mind sharing
what is asked for / preferred within their museum services?
Many thanks,
Catherine
