Good Afternoon
Apologies if this issue has already been covered, I have had a look at the archives and can not see a similar topic covered.
I have been tasked with looking at ways that we can mpnitor the utilisation of our study spaces annd would be interested to see how other academic libraries in the UK have tackled this question. I am interested in hearing if you have used the technological systems designed for the coproate sector to provide business intelligence and help rationalise real estate by understanding workspace usage, such as "Smartview" from Asure Software (http://www.asuresoftware.co.uk/products/space-utilization/) or Occupeye from CAD Capture (http://www.occupeye.com/how-it-works/). If you have used this kind of technology I would be interested in hearing some testimony about how useful it is within your library. There are obvious limitations regarding how much inforation you can produce about how they space is used.
What else have you done to achieve the same thing? There are traditional methods of headcounts and tallies. These can also be done with the assistance of mobile technology which can help capture observed activities.
So my questions are:
1. Have you used ny of the above technologies (or similar) and how successful were they?
2. Have you carried out any other kind of space utilisation studies.
Ill post a copy of my report on here.
Thanks
James
