I am writing regarding an upcoming workshop on palliative care/hospice archival records at King’s College London Archives on the morning of Tuesday 15 December 2015.
The Archives has been cataloguing the papers of Dame Cicely Saunders and to commemorate the completion of the project are holding a workshop promoting the collection and exploring the historical significance of hospice records and some of the challenges in preserving these significant holdings. The event will include talks by Professor David Clark (End of Life Studies, University of Glasgow) Dr Michelle Winslow (School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Sheffield) and Dr Jonathan Koffman (Cicely Saunders Institute, King’s College London) on the archives, oral history records in UK and the legacy of Dame Cicely Saunders’ work. This will be followed by a talk and display of the archive collection by myself and followed by a workshop discussion on the challenges in preserving hospice and palliative care records.
We are very keen to have academic researchers interested in death and the history of palliative care to contribute to the workshop and discuss with archivists, representatives from London hospices and former colleagues of Dame Cicely Saunders the issues facing current palliative care records, the historical significance of hospice records and sources available for the preservation of these records. Would you be able to put me in touch with someone who would be possibly be interested in attending the workshop?
Thank you for your time,
Chris Olver
