There is just one week to go until our next Discovery contributor workshop. If you would like to attend, or know someone in your organisation who would be interested, please follow the links below.
Next week is Explore Your Archive, and in that context these workshops are an opportunity to help shape the future of archives discovery tools for our users. Currently, we have two workshops planned:
Discovery contributor workshop - Manchester, 16th November: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/discovery-contributor-workshop-manchester-tickets-19291967795
Discovery contributor workshop - Birmingham, 20th November: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/discovery-contributor-workshop-birmingham-tickets-19291921657

Subject: More comprehensive Discovery - contribute
If you would like to read about efforts at The National Archives to develop Discovery, and a recent workshop to help shape its future, please see our blog:
http://blog.nationalarchives.gov.uk/blog/comprehensive-discovery/
If you are interested in contributing to Discovery, helping to shape its future, and sharing your ideas with a group of colleagues from across the archives sector, you may wish to attend one of our upcoming workshops:
Discovery contributor workshop - Manchester, 16th November: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/discovery-contributor-workshop-manchester-tickets-19291967795
Discovery contributor workshop - Birmingham, 20th November: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/discovery-contributor-workshop-birmingham-tickets-19291921657
Attendees will receive a detailed agenda closer to the time, but we would like the workshop to cover:
* An update on progress with Discovery and our plans for the future, including technical progress and the findings of our recent research into cataloguing and accessioning practice across the sector
* An opportunity for you to offer feedback on the Discovery service
* The challenges archives face getting catalogue content online and making it more visible to users and how Discovery might support that
* Discussion of the purpose and benefits of sharing data and how we can help to facilitate it
* How to build a robust and sustainable community for archives who contribute to Discovery
The day will be a mixture of round table and group work. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet some of the people working on Discovery.
The overall objective of this workshop is to develop a clear sense of what the wider archives sector would like Discovery to offer. This will help to inform our work and foster focused and transparent development of the Discovery service as a tool for you and your users.
