Applications are invited for a full-time 3-year post-doctoral researcher to join the Functional Brain Mapping Laboratory (Laboratoire de Cartographie fonctionnelle du Cerveau (LCFC)) of the ULB - Neuroscience Institute (Université libre de Bruxelles) in Brussels, Belgium.
The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team composed of neurologists, neuropsychologists and methodologists and will have access to a state-of-the-art human functional neuroimaging platform composed of MEG (novel Triux MEG system, to be installed early 2016), high-density EEG (hdEEG, Geodesic), and a novel PET/MRI (3T, to be installed mid-2016). The neuroimaging platform is placed at the ULB-Hôpital Erasme, which is the academic hospital of the Université libre de Bruxelles. The hospital is located at the border of Brussels with easy metro access. Brussels is a vibrant human-size and multicultural city offering a high quality of life.
She/he will have to develop experimental paradigms and analysis methods to investigate using MEG/hdEEG the spatio-temporal dynamics of language neural processes in healthy subjects and neurosurgical patients with focal brain lesions. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to compare non-invasive neurophysiological data with language mapping results from fMRI, intracranial recordings and WADA test. She/he will be able to integrate within this research framework some of her/his own research interests in language neurophysiology. The ultimate aim of the project is to develop clinical presurgical language mapping.
The candidate must be highly motivated and have a PhD in neuroscience, biomedical science, engineering, physics or related fields. She/he should have prior experience with functional neuroimaging (either MEG, EEG or fMRI). Expertise in MEG, EEG or fMRI signal analyses and language research is not mandatory but will be appreciated. The candidate should be fluent in English (French is a plus).
The position will first be opened for one year with an extension to 3 years if both parties are willing to pursue after the first the year. Salary will be commensurate with experience and within salary scale of the Université lire de Bruxelles (around 2.200-2.300 €/month free of tax).
Position is opened from January 4th, 2016. Depending on the successful candidate availability, the starting date can be negotiated.
Please send your application (CV, letter of intent with brief statement of research interests, copies of your publications if available, and 3 names of reference persons) to Xavier De Tiège at [log in to unmask] and Vincent Wens at [log in to unmask] before November 27th, 2015.
