Dear Psci-Commers,
I am writing on behalf of my colleague Ross Ziegelmeier. The Linnean Society of London is seeking to engage schools in Brent, Ealing or Hammersmith and Fulham. Please, help us spread the word.
Give your students the opportunity to show off their creative skills through their understanding of science and win some amazing prizes. Join The Linnean of Society of London in being part of the BioMedia Meltdown Competition by getting your students to create a piece of creative media about evolution.

The competition has been developed around the National Curriculum KS3 topics of evolution and aims to be accessible for students of all abilities and interests. Entries will be accepted in a variety of media (e.g. video, blog, poem, story, photo, and painting) that address the big ideas from evolution.
Free resources have been developed to help both science teachers and students acquire the necessary skills to interpret science through creative media. The following KS3 resources are available to be booked (please return attached booking form) and will be delivered at your school from September to October.
• Loan kits consist of the materials and activities that will be needed to get students to explore the topics of evolution through creative media.
• Workshops (1 hour ±) will be led sessions that guide students through the activities found in the loan box used to explore topics of evolution.
• CPD sessions (1 hour ±) for science teachers to familiarise themselves with the loan boxes’ to help facilitate students in being able to interpret science through creative media. These sessions can be booked in your school cluster groups to allow more staff to attend at once.
The competition will be launched on the 1st of October and will close on the 11th of December. Entries can be submitted individually or in groups (max 3) and will be judged against predetermined criteria with the winners being announced at the end of January. All winners, friends and family will be invited to celebrate their work in March 2016 at The Linnean Society of London where they will receive prizes. Schools may also independently submit evidence of their competition entries directly to the CREST UK award scheme.

The Linnean Society of London is the world’s oldest active biological society. Founded in 1788, the Society takes its name from the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus (1707–1778). The main purpose of the Linnean Society is ‘the cultivation of the science of natural history in all its branches’. The Society seeks to be an agent of inspiration for the scientific study of natural history in all age groups.
Thank you for helping us spread the message,
