Event Summary
Since the iconic picture, “Earthrise”, was taken from Apollo 8 as it orbited the moon and our planet rose above the horizon, we have considered our world a “blue planet”, an oasis amongst otherwise inhospitable and indifferent spheres. However, the idea of an Eden-like home that we have evolved to live in harmony with, is some way from the truth. In fact, 85% of the planet’s surface is covered with water, desert, ice or mountains. For humans, most of our home represents a hostile place.
Join Mike Tipton and The Physiological Society in exploring how we have managed to thrive with the use of intellect and invention, and what happens when things go wrong, when technology fails us, and we have to fall back to our primitive, unevolved physiological defences.
The event will be followed by a wine reception and an opportunity to chat with the speaker.
Best wishes,
Anisha
