For anyone interested, I have just checked, and Becky Sheldon, Archivist at
the Derbyshire Record
Office, County Hall, Matlock, DE4 3AG confirms that they do still hold a
report I wrote in my student days
on the Cadley Hill and Bretby Collieries near Swadlincote, South Derbyshire,
describing them as they were
in the summer of 1950.
It is held in their archive collection under reference D5444/1 (link to
online catalogue:
&id=D5444%2f1&pos=1> D5444/1).
They did produce a typewritten version, but that omitted some key drawings
which exist in the original,
such as the carefully drawn-to-scale map of the layout of the surface
buildings at Cadley Hill, of which
there will be no trace on the site these days as it was later reworked by
opencast.
