Dear All,
This is a call for papers for a funded workshop on Girlhood in East Asian Cinema that will be taking place at the School of East Asian Studies, Sheffield University in late Nov/early Dec (dates tbc).
Girlhood has become a serious point of discussion in academic circles but still the focus often remains primarily on the USA and Europe as the key cinematic presentations of this complex figure. This workshop will bring together scholars who are all working on aspects of Girlhood across East Asian cinema and the aims and objectives are to spark discussions, develop methodologies and then proceed to future projects.
Scholars working on Japan and South Korea are already well represented so this is a primarily a call for papers for scholars working on girlhood (taken very broadly), in the Chinese-language cinematic context (PRC, Hong Kong, Taiwan). We will consider all papers submitted but we are not aiming to duplicate content. We already have scholars working on horror, anime, fandom and colonial cinema involve so we are potentially interested in papers that address alternative topics such as star bodies, action cinema, girls and documentary, girls in national building etc.
Travel and accommodation (UK only due to limited funds) will be provided for those invited.
Please submit a 300-400 word abstract and a short cv. to [log in to unmask] by 30th Oct 2015.
any questions please email me,
best
Kate
