Hello everyone
I am in the final year of my PhD and wonder if you could take the time to
complete these questions for me and provide me with your responses. They
will all be kept in strict confidence with only myself and my supervisor,
Dr S. Foley, having access to them. No quotes or examples will be used
within my Thesis where any organisation or person could be readily
identified.
I am looking for additional responses to support (or challenge) my existing
findings and would be extremely grateful for your help.

Highest Educational level: GCSE/A-Level/Degree/Masters/Postgraduate
Taught/MPhil/PhD
Number of years you have been in the heritage industry: <1, 1-5, 6-10, >10
Please provide your current title:
2. What professional (not personal) experience do you have engaging with
social media? For example, do you regularly tweet or engage with Facebook
communities around your area of expertise?
3. Has the use of social media interactions with the public affected your
role? For example, needing to dedicate more time to responding to
questions from the public (whether directly posed to you or via another
area of your organisation)?
4. Could you describe your experience of engaging with the public over
social media (crowdsourcing/crowd-curation/co-curation/cooperation)?
5. Has the increased use of social media in your cultural institution had
any impact on your role? Please describe any positive or negative
experiences.
6. Have you used social media to ask the public their opinion or seek
information from them? For example, putting an image of an artefact onto
social media to ask for input to its use or any stories around it.
7. Extended reach is viewed as a positive element of social media for
cultural institutions. Can you think of any times where this extended
reach has had a direct impact on you? For example, a deeper understanding
of the story behind artefacts or images in the collections.
8. Have you been involved with@AskACurator days? If so, please give some
insight as to your experience of this event. What went well? What
elements were difficult or challenging to deal with?
9. Are you involved with any online communities surrounding your
organisation, such as Facebook groups? If so, please give some details and
some insight on your experience of being part of such communities.
10. Do you feel that the authority, trust or expertise levels of yourself
or your institution are being challenged through increased engagement with
the public over social media? Please give examples where you can.
11. Has your cultural organisation made any specific changes that have
come about following on from interactions/engagements with the public over
social media?
If you would be happy to be contacted to discuss your responses further,
please provide your name and express agreement to contact. Despite having
emails through responses, no further contact will be made with respondents
unless express permission is provided.
