Library Assistant, Document Delivery
35 hours a week: Monday to Friday including 1 late shift to 7/9pm every two weeks and approximately 9 Saturdays per year.
The Royal Society of Medicine Library is one of the largest postgraduate biomedical libraries in Europe providing a full range of services to the Society’s c.20,000 Members. We are looking for a motivated individual to join our Customer Services Team that provides document delivery, literature searches and a wide range of user education activities. You will be in a team that is responsible for the day-to-day document delivery service, ensuring that all deadlines are met and appropriate copyright procedures are followed.
Your key activities within this role will include:
• Meeting customers’ needs in a responsive, accurate, timely and customer centred way via face to face, telephone and written communications.
• Using software packages to produce reports.
• Providing services to Fellows and Members from the Issue desk.
• Providing a document Supply service using Integra, Work Flows and other appropriate systems.
• Following and keeping up to date with Library and administrative procedures.
• Accurately recording service data using work flows, Integra, Excel and paper based systems, for the purpose of maintaining library statistics.
• Stock moving and re-shelving as required.
• Providing high quality scans and photocopies of articles and within published deadlines and in line with copy wrights.
The Library is a fast paced, ever changing environment. Significant advancements are taking place focusing on the library as a multifunctional space, while recognising the increasing importance of e-resources.
To be considered for this role therefore you will need to be able to demonstrate:
• Excellent communication skills including letter and report writing.
• An ability to responds to staff and customers in person and by phone.
• Accurate cash handling and numeracy skills
• Problem Solving skills
• Excellent team working
• An ability to work accurately, methodically meet deadlines and work with minimum supervision.
• You will also need to demonstrate an ability to learn and ideally have experience using MS office but strong PC skills.
