Standards ... ignore them at your peril!
Setting the Standard
Wednesday 11 November 2015, 09:15 - 16:00
British Dental Association, 64 Wimpole Street, London W1G 8YS
Chair: David Sommer, Product Director and Co-founder, Kudos
#alpspstandards
So, why are standards so important? Standards allow for clear, unambiguous and automated communication - freeing up resources and improving efficiencies and customer service. A great example from daily life is EAN-13, the standard for retail barcodes. You don't need to know how EAN-13 works, just that it makes your life simpler when it comes to checking stock, prices and working on the till. In journals publishing, implementing the right standards can enhance the value of your content and improve workflows. Adopting standards now can also help to future proof your business.
And what happens if we ignore them? Your content becomes less discoverable and less usable. Users who are used to touch screen technology and immediate results will simply go elsewhere if your material is more than a click away.
Who should attend? Journal publishing staff, particularly those in Editorial and Production, who want to find out more about the standards which are being adopted across the industry and the benefits that they can bring.
