Time: 1:00 - 5:00 pm
Venue: John Snow Lecture Theatre (A), LSHTM, Keppel Street, London, WC1E 7HT, UK
Researchers are applying increasingly diverse methods to collect research data on a large-scale. These methods have implications for the type of information that is collected and how it is managed over time. This workshop brings together researchers from a range of health-related disciplines to discuss new and evolving practices for data-driven research and the tools available for use. The session will focus upon three areas:
1. Data collection using mobile devices
2. Collecting participant information using crowdsourcing tools
3. Using web-based services to enhance health research
Each presenter will provide a case study of their respective project, describing the methods that were applied, hardware/software tools that were used, and the challenges that had to be addressed. They will also offer advice for others wishing to apply the tools and techniques in their own research.
Although the event focuses upon health-related research, the methods and software tools are applicable to researchers and data managers working with participants in a wide range of disciplines. We welcome attendees working in non-health fields who wish to learn about data capture tools that may be applied to their own research.
