PhD Studentships in Modern Languages and Cultures at Durham University
(deadline 11 JANUARY 2016)
The School of Modern Languages and Cultures invites applications for PhD studentships through the AHRC-funded Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership.
The Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership offers the high-quality supervisory expertise and exceptional resources of Durham University<http://www.durham.ac.uk/>, Newcastle University and Queen’s University Belfast and their partners for the training and development of outstanding Arts and Humanities postgraduate researchers. The awards cover tuition fees and provide a maintenance grant at the RCUK national rate for UK applicants. They cover tuition fees only for EU students.
The scheme welcomes applications from outstanding candidates who can demonstrate evidence of academic excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as evidence of sufficient research skills to undertake the project. This generally means a first-class or good upper-second undergraduate degree and performance at or around distinction level in a masters degree. Applicants must be United Kingdom citizens or residents of another European Union country. European Union applicants who have not been resident in the UK for the three years prior to the start of their studentship are eligible for a fees-only award from the AHRC (institutional funds permitting, maintenance awards may be offered to successful EU applicants).
If you wish to be considered for Northern Bridge AHRC funding for a PhD in any area of Modern Languages and Cultures (including French, German, Italian, Hispanic, Russian Studies, Interpreting and Translation, Visual Arts, or Film and Media) you must have made an on-line application for a PhD place at Durham by 5pm on Monday 11th January 2016.
