Dear All,
This gives me the opportunity to invite any list member who
has an opinion on the effect of EU membership on UK science
and hasn't already been in touch to let me have it, or send it
directly to the GeolSoc or the Royal Astronomical Society if
you prefer. Any that you send to me, I will probably forward to both.
The replies I have had so far suggest that the effect of the UK
leaving the EU would be far-reaching. Some specific
examples would be helpful to the Lords.
I shan't be able to forward any that come after Friday 6th November
in time to meet the GeolSoc's deadline of 11th November,
so if you respond after that date, please write directly to the GeolSoc.
Thanks!
Regards,
Sheila Peacock,
list co-owner and BGA Committee member.

Dear Dr Peacock
The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee has launched an inquiry on the ‘Relationship between EU membership and UK science’, specifically on the influence that the UK’s membership of the EU has on the vitality of UK science, research and innovation. The Society is planning a response to this inquiry and we would welcome your comments and thoughts on any aspect of the benefits and downsides of EU membership with respect to UK science and innovation. These might include research funding and collaboration, regulation, impact on industry and scientific advice to policymakers.
You can find the Terms of Reference for the inquiry on the committee website (http://www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/lords-select/science-and-technology-committee/news-parliament-2015/eu-relationship-membership-inquiry/).
If I could have any comments on the inquiry by Wednesday 11^November that would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Flo Bullough
Policy Assistant
