A Research Technician position is available at the High Throughput
Crystallization Laboratory (HTX-Lab) of the EMBL Grenoble
Outstation.(see http://www.embl.fr.)
Deadline 29 November 2015.
The HTX Lab is actively involved in the development of new concepts and
methods in macromolecular crystallization, including the recently
developed CrystalDirect approach for automated crystal harvesting and
offers access to crystallization screening services to both local and
European researchers through the EC-funded BioStruct-X and iNEXT projects.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development of automated
macromolecular crystallography pipelines integrating crystallization,
automated crystal mounting and X-ray data collection in collaboration
with the HTX lab members and other teams in the Outstation and the ESRF.
These pipelines will be applied to the structural analysis of proteins
of biomedical relevance. He/She will also contribute to the operation of
robotic equipment associated to the crystallization screening services
offered by the HTX lab.
Tasks will include development of integrated crystallography workflows,
liaison with HTX lab users and operation of the crystallization platform
comprising automated liquid handling, imaging and crystal harvesting
systems. DNA cloning, protein expression and purification will be
performed as part of the internal research projects. Additional tasks
will include the management of orders and consumables for the HTX
laboratory and general management and maintenance of robotic equipment
(arranging with external companies for repairs when necessary).
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have a degree in biochemistry or a related field from
a technical school or university, as well as excellent skills in protein
handling and molecular biology. Experience in protein crystallization,
macromolecular crystallography and the use of automated laboratory
equipment will be highly valued. The ability to work within a team and
communicate with users of the crystallization facility is essential.
She/He should be willing to acquire further skills and contribute to the
development of new methods. Fluency in English and good computer skills
are mandatory. We are looking for a motivated and dynamic person with a
desire to work in an international environment and to contribute to high
quality research and services.
