I’ve just been browsing Todd Swift’s blog and noticed that over the years he’s made a great point of highlighting and promoting poets who’ve won prestigious poetry prizes and awards. He does this to the point that it becomes nauseating after a while. He’s even complied lists of who he thinks are important US and British poets based only (so it seems) on such prizes and awards. I don’t think he’s alone in this sort of enthusiasm for awards. It seems pretty pervasive--at least in mainstream poetry circles.
Does anyone have any opinions on this either way?
