A History of Distributed Cognition
Call for Papers
Volume 3: From the Enlightenment to Romanticism
In philosophy and cognitive science a range of recent theories argue that the mind is not just brain-based but is distributed across the brain, body and world. This AHRC-funded project explores the historical expression of related notions of the mind as distributed.
In Volume 3 the focus is on the Enlightenment and Romanticism. We are looking for three further participants. This will involve producing an 8,000 word essay which will receive feedback from the editorial team as well as peer feedback from the international group of scholars involved in the virtual workshops. It is expected that the essays will engage with one or more of the topics in eight specially created virtual seminars by influential philosophers working on current debates and hypotheses about distributed cognition, and will reflect on the expression of these notions in their own period. The seminars can be viewed on the project webpage: www.hdc.ed.ac.uk.
We invite abstracts of 300-500 words before 5pm (UK time) on 12 October 2015 on topics which can be closely related to the foci of the project and virtual seminars. We invite applications from scholars working on intellectual history, history of ideas, history of art, archaeology and history of medicine, science, or technology.
Please submit any queries and/or your abstract along with a 250 word biography to [log in to unmask], [log in to unmask] and [log in to unmask]
