Politics in the era of Xi Jinping: breaking new ground or sticking to consultative Leninism?

Abstract
This seminar will use the concept of ‘consultative Leninism’ as the analytical framework to assess Xi Jinping’s approach to the political reform, as encapsulated in his idea of ‘the China dream’, in relation to the established reform-era tradition of Chinese Communism. Professor Tsang shall assess the direction of changes in the political arena under Xi in accordance with the five defining features of consultative Leninism, viz.
Biography
Steve Tsang is Head of School and Professor of Contemporary Chinese Studies at the School of Contemporary Chinese Studies, University of Nottingham, UK. He has published very extensively on the politics, international relations, security and history of the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
