2.1 ALT Community Call: Tracey Duffy on bridging the digital divide, 05 November 2015, 12:30 PM - 1.00 PM
The second of ALT’s community calls, speaking to ALT members about their work, is being held with Tracey Duffy, a Digital Media Advisor for Jisc. Tracey has experience supporting and implementing digital solutions across the sectors from secondary schools to further and higher education. Tracey is very active on the ALT-MEMBERS mailing list and in the call we explore her interests digital media, current projects and involvement in the ALT Community.

2.2 Games and Learning SIG Live Meeting, 11 November 2015, 12.00 - 12 November 2015 12.00, Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester
The next GLSIG live meeting will be hosted by Manchester Metropolitan University, and is timed to link in with Prof. Nicola Whitton's inaugural lecture on the afternoon of 12th November (to which GLSIG members are invited). 2.5 Meeting of the Central Executive Committee, 20 November 2015, London, 10.30 AM - 3.00 PM

2.6 East Midlands Learning Technologists’ Group Winter Meeting, 09 December 2015, 1.00 PM - 4.00 PM, De Montfort University, Leicester
This event explores how technology can be used to support assessment in all its forms. It will look at the impact of some of the newer approaches to assessment such as the use of Open Badges, as well as more familiar approaches like online quizzes and electronic submission. In addition it will explore assessment approaches which consider inclusive practices, and assessments designed to look at developing learners’ digital skills and practices. The organisers are still soliciting Pecha Kucha sessions – 6 min presentations with images – from members of the community to talk about their approaches to using technology in assessment. Closing date 5 PM 27 November 2015.

3.1 MOOC Survey. 
Taken, run or produced a MOOC? Complete the www.moocsurvey.org
Whatever your role is within Higher Education your views and opinions are valuable, and appreciated. This survey aims to understand the effects of MOOCs on institutions in the following areas: 
* Impacts that production of MOOCs are having within Institutions 
* The process of how MOOCs are being implemented 
* Drivers and rationale for producing MOOCs

3.2 EMMA launches MOOCs on Assessment and Copyright
European Multiple Mooc Aggregator (EMMA) provides multilingual MOOCs in 5 languages. Among these are two new MOOCs, one on Assessment for Learning and one on Copyright. Other MOOCs are on topics like Cultural heritage, Pedagogy and Climate change. These MOOCs will be made available from end of October. EMMA is also open for organizations interested in offering a MOOC.

3.3 In collaboration with the XPRIZE Foundation and the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy (www.BarbaraBush.org) and its President, Liza McFadden, Barbara Bush announces the launch of the $7-million Barbara Bush Foundation Adult Literacy XPRIZE.  This global competition is challenging teams around the world to develop mobile applications for existing smartphones that are able to help low-literate adults in the United States by significantly improving their literacy skills within one year. A successful entry will help to solve the global challenge posed by low rates of literacy.

3.4 Research Study Report - Technology Solutions for Further Education Learning
A research study with 116 students at PROCAT Prospects College of Advanced Technology has been carried out by Katharine Jewitt, Digital Learning Fellow, to investigate students’ expectations and experiences when using technology. Using JISC's digital student resources (http://go.alt.ac.uk/1LmigOu), data was collected on access to and use of technology, as well as student expectations of the college in helping them gain skills, experiences and attributes in the use of technology.

3.5 Oxford Brookes University MOOC: First Steps into Learning and Teaching in HE
This five-week introduction to teaching in higher education runs as a MOOC, free and open to all for participation (assessment incurs a fee). The course relies on sharing knowledge with your peers, and will leave you better informed about teaching and learning in higher education and confident that you could try out new things. Through the course you may also form and strengthen your professional support network of teachers in higher education.
Accredited: 10 M-level credits.

4.1 Learning and Technologies and Nebula Expo, 05 November 2015, London
The Association of Employment and Learning Providers (AELP) is hosting a major interactive Learning and Technologies and Nebula Expo for training providers, apprenticeship employers, local authorities and other key stakeholders to look at how digital technology can support success in learning and business.

4.2 Blended Learning - A Whole College Approach, one-day conference, Bromsgrove, 09 November 2015
The key theme of this conference is the successful implementation of the SOLA (scheduled online learning and assessment) blended learning curriculum model at Heart of Worcestershire College over the last 5 years. The conference is also available online through live video streaming.

4.3 ‘Is today’s ed-tech fit for purpose?’ Panel discussion at UCL, 10 November 2015, 5.00 PM - 10.00 PM, London
As technology takes an ever larger role in learning, as Massive Open Online Courses boom, and as Google fast-tracks yet more educational services, our panel of academics and students will lock horns with the technology community for a frank discussion: is today’s ed tech fit for purpose? Join speakers from universities, the technology sector, and student leadership for an evening of dialogue and argument. Chaired by Maren Deepwell, Chief Executive of the Association for Learning Technology. Hot drinks available from 17:00, and wine, soft drinks and nibbles at the end in the Roberts Foyer. We'll be using #edtechdialogue to gather questions and carry on the conversation.

4.4 National Centre for Research Methods one-day course: Video Stimulated Recall, Reflection and Dialogue, 13 November 2015, 10.00 AM - 4.00 PM, University of Southampton
Covers the rationale for using video stimulated recall, reflection and dialogue, the affordances of the method, the ethical issues, the practical challenges and technical matters. There will be some experiential learning through a practical introduction to video recording equipment and engagements with examples from our work using this approach to study teaching and learning interactions in research methods courses.

4.5 UnituHack, 14 November, London
A student & staff ed-tech event, bringing them together to form teams for one day to co-create technological innovations and solutions for specific challenges found in universities. There will be four UnituHack events in London, Midlands, Northern England and Scotland. All the student places for Unituhack London are filled but there are still places for staff in education to join the teams.

4.7 SHRE network event: the digital university and its contribution to a sustainable future, 19 November 2015, 10.30 AM - 4.00 PM, Nottingham Trent University
Explores the different ways online teaching and learning could contribute to frame and solve sustainability challenges such as climate change or food security. Participants will gain an overview about sustainability as conceptualised for the digital university. Will also explore ‘crowdsourcing’ in its own right but also as a tool to gain various ideas from several minds in order to design sustainable solutions. Two keynote speakers addressing and reflecting these two topics in turn and some input from the organizers as well.
