Call for panels for the Popular Culture Stream at the biennial conference of the African Studies Association of the UK (ASAUK), to be held September 7-9, 2016 at the University of Cambridge (http://www.asauk.net/asauk-biennial-conference-2016/ <http://www.asauk.net/asauk-biennial-conference-2016/>)
Stream description: This stream considers popular culture from across the continent in all its diverse and dynamic forms. Panels on popular music, theatre, popular fiction, fashion, photography, film, and comedy are most welcome. Topics to be explored include, but are not limited to: the relationship between popular culture and power; agency and audiences; genre; language and slang; gender and sexuality; celebrity and stardom; and nationalism.
Those interested should submit a 400-word abstract for their panel to Andrea Grant ([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>) no later than November 3. Apologies for cross-posting.
