Dear all, apologies for eventual cross-posting.

CFP: Memory, Conflict and Co-Existence: Interculturality and decolonization
in Latin America and the world

The Interdisciplinary Center of Intercultural and Indigenous Studies
(ICIIS) of the Catholic University of Chile, invite proposals for a
*seminar on Memory, Conflict and Co-Existence* to be held between *
December 14th
- 17th ** 2015 in Santiago de Chile.*

ICIIS sets focus on the relationship between *memory*, *conflict* and
*coexistence* among different people and groups. We look into how memory
and forgetting are articulated in contemporary conflicts and
subjectivities, and how genealogies of socio-cultural difference have been
established through direct, structural and symbolic violence in specific
settings. In particular, we wish to dwell into expressions of indigeneity
and the lives of minority groups in times of struggle, endurance of
invisibilized hardship and in times of post-conflict. We ask what role
memory plays in expressions of prejudice, racism and practices of
discrimination as well as in the recognition of indigenous people and in
intercultural relations across differences that matter. We focus on how the
“past” becomes rearticulated in everyday relations, conflicts over land and
resources, definitions of rights and political actions from state and
non-state actors, and we inquiry into the relationship between memory,
subject formation and collective identities. We hope that these
explorations will allow us to also analyze the relationship between *memory
*and processes of* post-colonialism and decolonization, *asking how
understandings of the past animate today’s struggles, conflicts and forms
of co-existence.

The seminar will approach these many issues of *memory*, *conflict* and *co*
-*existence* from an interdisciplinary perspective, through comparative
case studies and theoretical inquiry. We invite researchers and graduate
students interested in presenting at the seminar to present *abstracts of
no longer than 1.000 words* to the organizing committee *by October 26**th
2015. Note of acceptance will be sent out by November 2nd 2015*

For abstract submission and further information about the seminar please

Participation and attendance at the seminar are free of charge. Please feel
free to circulate this CFP as widely as possible among your
networks. The CFP can also be accessed via the following link:
