SEXUAL HEALTH & HUMAN RIGHTS UNESCO CHAIR

The UNESCO Chair promotes research and education in accordance with cultural specificities and supports new educational approaches in human sexuality and sexual health.
The UNESCO CHAIR Sexual Health and Human Rights takes up this challenge, one of the most important given the current situation.

The INTERNATIONAL INNOVATION AWARD OF THE UNESCO CHAIR SEXUAL HEALTH & HUMAN RIGHTS rewards an original initiative in the field of sexual health and human rights, following 2015 Targets for Sustainable Development.

The Award, a reference in the field, aims at supporting and promoting achievements and concrete actions focusing on individuals and/or populations’ development, information, education, prevention sexual health and human rights improvement.

Why ?
Every day, for thousands million people, sexuality is a struggle, a shame, or even endangering. Worldwide data remain alarming :
•	70% of women did or will experience a form of violence in their lifetime (UN 2014)
•	1/5 woman is a victim of rape or attempt of rape (UN 2014)
•	Children and women with disabilities are 1.5 to 3 times more likely to be sexually abused than non-disabled (WHO, 2012)
•	Over 1 million people contract a sexually transmitted infection every day, (OMS 2013)
•	19 of 35 million people living with HIV are undiagnosed and unaware of their serostatus (UNAIDS 2014)
Because these persons :
-	Do not have the means and tools to apprehend appropriately sexual experience (sex education and so forth)
-	Are mistreated and vulnerable, they face violence, leading sometimes to death
-	Do not have the basic information to prevent themselves from being transmitted and transmit infections
-
This global problem has dramatic consequences, for individuals and societies. Addressing these issues requires innovation. Traditional interventions are not efficient. Our responsibility is to catalyse evolution innovation and implementation regarding sexual health.
