Day 2: Wednesday 4 November 2015 - book now<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/digitisation-workshop-managing-risk-day-2-tickets-18134524852%20>
This is a two day conference focusing on the practical aspects of digitisation, a key area for archive development. Rather than looking in detail at the mechanics of digitisation, which are now generally well understood, this year's event will address how to manage projects to deliver successful outcomes. A big component of that is managing risk within a project to align with organisational priorities and appetites, whilst producing tangible outcomes.
The National Archives has a wealth of experience when it comes to digitisation. Last year approximately 8 million images were produced from TNA documents through a variety of solutions; in-house, external service providers and a range of commercial partners. This conference aims to share our learnings with the sector and you will hear from the people directly involved on a day-to-day basis. You will also hear case studies from archives in smaller institutions, explaining how they have successfully tackled digitisation risks.
Day 1 looks at different aspects of risk in the context of digitisation and will explore the broader concepts as well as specific areas such as data protection and copyright. Day 2 will look at how to reduce risk by appointing the right service providers and how to manage them effectively. Afternoon sessions also include workshops that will be interactive and look at how our experiences can assist you with your individual projects. Sessions are designed to be interactive and allow plenty of time for questions and discussion on the topics. Lunch and break times are ideal for networking and sharing of experience as well as more detailed individual conversations as appropriate.
We've designed the 2 days with the intention of providing archives with the knowledge to proceed with confidence in this complex and challenging area and a significant part of the agenda comes out of requests made by delegates from last year around what we should be covering. We anticipate a set of interesting and challenging discussions that will make archives think hard about not just what they are doing but also why they are doing them in the first place.
