Plumian Professorship of Astronomy and Experimental Philosophy
The Board of Electors to the Plumian Professorship of Astronomy and
Experimental Philosophy invite applications for this Professorship from
persons whose work falls within the general field of the Professorship
to take up appointment as soon as possible. The University hopes soon to
be in a position to elect to this Professorship. The current holder of
the post retires in September 2018. An appointment before that date
would be to the Professorship of Astronomy, and the successful candidate
would then take up the Plumian Professorship from 1 October 2018.
Candidates will have an outstanding research record of international
stature in Astronomy or Astrophysics and the vision, leadership,
experience and enthusiasm to build on current strengths in maintaining
and developing a leading research presence. They will hold a PhD or
equivalent postgraduate qualification.
Standard professorial duties include teaching and research, examining,
supervision and administration. The Professor will be based in
Cambridge. A competitive salary will be offered.
