Dear PyGy-ers,
A new Working Group on Race, Culture and Equality (RACE) is being proposed to the RGS-IBG, for people who want to work around issues of race, diversity and equality in the academy, and in geography as a discipline, and for people who work on race as a subject.
Key objectives include networking and sharing resources on issues such as diversifying the curriculum, improving mentoring and supporting BME people in universities (students, early career and established academics), and developing closer links and working with secondary and wider education.
This was discussed at the PyGyRG AGM at conference last week, and it was agreed that we would send out an e-mail, reminding members that you can belong/sign up to as many of the RGS-IBG working or research groups as you wish, there's not a limit. Thus:
RACE are currently recruiting support for our application to the RGS-IBG this month (SEPT> 2015).
We are looking for Fellows of the RGS-IBG, as well as geographers who are not Fellows but are interested in a RACE working group (NB you do not have to be a Fellow to belong to a working group of the RGS-IBG) to 'sign up' in support.
Please get in touch with Richard Baxter ([log in to unmask] ), Group Secretary, listing your name, institutional affiliation /or 'independent researcher', and stating whether you are a Fellow or not.
Initial proposers are Margaret Byron (Chair), Angela Last (Treasurer) and Richard (above).
Many thanks,
Kye
