Dear Colleagues,
Further to our recent message to the list on the subject of IEEE subscription content and Discovery Services. In advance of our scheduled Discovery Services workshops, IEEE has researched the use and effectiveness of Discovery Services in the UK and Ireland by IEEE subscription customers.
The IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL) subscription contains almost 3.9 million documents made up of Journals, Standards and Conferences from several publishers. If you have chosen to use a Discovery Service, it is important to your library patrons that the full content of the IEL subscription is connected to the Discovery Service and that all of the available records are interrogated each time your patrons chose to search via the Discovery Tool.
IEEE's research shows a very large volume of IEEE customers with Discovery Services set up in a manner, which is sub optimal for the search and delivery of IEEE content. Many UK and Irish institutions appear not to have ingested or selected large parts of the available IEEE metadata into their Discovery tools. In addition many are missing links to the available full text.
Our initial findings show that the majority of UK and Irish institutions included in the research can see only 2 million of the 3.9 million available records.
Both IEEE and Content Online Ltd are committed to assisting our subscribers to ensure correct Discovery Service implementation.
Fell free to join us at one of the scheduled events later this month where IEEE Discovery Services Relationship Manager, Julie Zhu will be on hand to assist you in resolving these issues.

We will of course be contacting each affected institution directly with a personal invite. Unfortunately, however, we have not been able to test all Discovery Service implementations in the UK and Ireland as many sit behind an authentication layer. Where possible we will reach out to you and ask for a test account so that we can complete our research.
Kind regards
