I'm also amazed at people who can tweet and take notes, though for some people the tweeting is them taking notes.
Victoria - I'm glad you're considering speaking at a conference and I hope there are others too who have maybe considered it/reconsidered it!

Hi all,
I’ve been following the discussions with interest—well, catching up on them in fits and starts might be more accurate! I really dislike public speaking as being the centre of attention is unnerving (although I do give presentations to colleagues and occasionally students), so it’s never really occurred to me to speak at a conference (what, volunteer for more presenting?!), or what to speak about if I did—the encouragement and tips have been really useful, and our managers are always encouraging us to do so, so perhaps I shall reconsider. For me, as much preparation and practice as possible is essential to getting my words out in the right order on the day.
I’d like to say a word in defence of Prezi as it does (now) export to PDF and you can download a self-contained presentation if necessary so there are backup options but I think it’s harder to use correctly than PowerPoint and if I were speaking in a completely alien venue I would probably choose PowerPoint as the safer option. My first go with Prezi, I was told that someone in the audience felt travel sick by the end! Luckily, that was on a presentations training course, so it was all part of the learning experience :) I’ve had good results where I can use the zooming in and out to (gently) show links and overviews/depth in a topic, but it can be gimmicky as well.
I’m always amazed by how people manage to tweet at conferences while also paying attention. Perhaps it’s just practice but by the time I’ve composed my thought in to 140 characters, I’ve missed the next two points. I tend to read the tweets later to see what other people picked up as key points.

Thanks Christina. I'm not too find of Prezi as an audience member either. I think I got swept up in the trend for Prezi over Powerpoint but it's not an experience I'll be repeating!
