Peers need to 'sign in' or some equivalent to qualify for expenses. I'm not sure if any record is kept for how long they remain in the House. I've heard that some just drop by to sign in, then leave.

Subject: [BSA-RACE] democracy?
Just in case you have not read about this:
From the METRO newspaper, 8 Sept:
Peers who didn’t utter a single word in the House of Lords claimed almost £1.3 million between them last year. Sixty-four peers who failed to speak or vote in any debates since the start of the Parliamentary session claimed £1,262,670 in expenses and allowances. Thirty silent peers claimed £772,719 between 2010 and 2015, the Electoral Reform Society’s research found.
Do they even have to ‘sign in’? Do MPs?
