Research Assistant (Junior Specialist) at UC Davis
We are seeking a motivated and friendly individual for a research assistant position (Junior Specialist) at the Schweitzer Lab, at UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA. We investigate the brain systems for cognition and motivation, as well as the interactions between them and many more exciting areas besides.
The position involves collecting and analyzing data related to cognitive neurosciences experiments using functional MRI, and developing and implementing analysis procedures for fMRI data. All work involves computer use, including Windows, UNIX, and OSX platforms and fMRI analysis programs. Facilities include a research dedicated 3T Siemens Trio MRI system. The position involves working with children, adolescents and young adults.
Candidates should have 1) at least a B.A. or B.S. degree 2) an interest in developmental, cognitive or motivational brain systems 3) some experience either working with functional neuroimaging including fMRI design and analysis – or alternatively they could have strong computational skills and a demonstrable computer science background, and be willing to put in the time and patience to learn them 4) significant computer programming coursework and/or experience and basic knowledge of shell scripting, python, E-Prime, UNIX system administration experience are desirable. We have experts who will be able to teach advanced methods 5) prior laboratory experience is required.
Experience in working with children is preferred. Interest and ability to work comfortably with children, teens and clinical populations is required.

We offer a unique opportunity to learn advanced multi-modal brain image processing and connectivity skills and expertise in operating advanced brain imaging equipment, as well as domain knowledge in ADHD, development, cognitive and motivational neural systems.
