The National Trust looks after over 250,000 hectares of land and 775 miles of coastline, all the data behind this land needs managing!
Working as part of the Wales internal National Trust consultancy, based in a hub office at The Granary, Llandeilo Carmarthenshire (we may be able to consider an alternative office base for an exceptional candidate) , this is a hugely exciting role full of opportunities. It is key to maintaining local data, and from this providing management information for local decision making at our properties across Wales.
The successful applicant will provide a consultancy service in GIS, GPS, digital mapping and data management, manipulation and interpretation, which will include responding to requests for information, advice and hands on support to meet the needs and demands of our property teams.
The National Trust has a requirement to maintain core spatial data to provide tenancy boundaries, acquisition, disposal and ownership, inalienability and grant application boundaries.
There is a high level of skills required for this legally binding work it requires understanding, training and experience in using GIS and also use of in house and external data systems. A careful meticulous attention to detail is a fundamental requirement for this part of the role having responsibility for part of key national datasets. Boundaries from these datasets can be directly used to produce maps requiring good cartographic and presentation skills, and ability to manipulate the datasets and generate clear informative layouts.
This post supports and trains other spatial data systems users, the intranet GIS map Browser and ArcMap and surveying using professional grade GPS systems.
This is a 12 month part time (26.25 hours per week) fixed term post covering a secondment – a great opportunity gain experience of working within a large conservation charity and to spend time getting to know some of the most beautiful places in Wales.
