Dear all,
The deadline for nominations for the Geological Society's
2016 round of awards is 1st October 2015 (two weeks
away).
The URL in "Geoscientist" is wrong - use
http://www.geolsoc.org.uk/AwardNominations
to get to the current instructions.
Solid-Earth geophysicists are eligible for most of
the medals and funds. The BGA wants to see the
profile of geophysics raised by the award of prizes
to its members.
Don't forget that the President's Award and the
"Funds" are for a talented geoscientist within
ten years of their FIRST DEGREE in geosciences
(the exact phrase is "ten years full-time equivalent").
If you nominated (or considered nominating) someone
for the RAS Winton Capital award (for which the
criterion is five years from PhD) then you could re-use
the nomination for one of these.
Beware that the proposer and seconder for any of the
medals, the RH Worth prize and the Distinguished
Service Award (but not the "Funds") must be from a
different institution from the nominee (if this causes you
problems, let me know and I'll help you look for someone
to add their name to your nomination). There is no requirement
of the nominee or the nominators to be members of the
GeolSoc.
Sheila Peacock
BGA Awards officer.
