Skipping the high-pass filter can be done by typing inf meaning that only oscillations with periods longer than infinity will be filtered away. One problem with filtering outside SPM is how to control the df taken up by the external HP filter. This is automatically done in SPM. Another problem relates to filtering of the design matrix, which again is automatically done when filtering is kept inside SPM.
