It arguably also contravenes National Minimum Wage legislation:
https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-work-experience-and-internships
Even if it doesn't it is one of the many examples of (1) how newcomers are being exploited and (2) how even where there is some experiential/CV 'benefit' to be derived from such an arrangement it effectively excludes those who do not have private means or other financial support.michael

Dear all,

³Just an observation² as I read this announcement. Please bear in mind
that this ³offer² is placed in the context of curating professionals and
artists.

If I understand the first ³internship opportunity² correctly, it is asking
for 80 hours of free work a la ³Would you like to work for me for free
please send a CV and a cover letter to be able to work for free for my
project².

"Expenses paid² while working from home - what do you mean by expenses:
like rent, utilities, food? Or do you mean electricity that is needed for
running the computer? Or do you mean pen and paper? Or 25% of my internet
service provider fee?

An internship used to have a function for the intern (getting insight into
a work area, getting started) and was not just two weeks doing free work.
And we all know about the exploitation that internships in industry have
turned into.

So what one gets in return is that one can put on one¹s CV ³Worked for
Katie Paterson as intern (80 hours)²? That is just great and pays my bills
and opens doors for future jobs?

I don¹t know if any other professional on this list finds this also
appalling.

But maybe I misunderstood - then please let me know. Since I am working
professionally in the field, I would like to learn if I interpreted this
correctly or not.
