The University of Brighton is seeking Hourly Paid Lecturers to teach on the Media and Journalism programme which run at the University's Hastings Campus.
Lecturers are required in the following areas:
• Broadcast and Television History and Industry Context
• Media Studies
Broadcast and Television History, Industry and Context – taught at level 4, this module provides students with an understanding of the historical background of the broadcast sector in the UK and looks towards the future of broadcasting. The module covers the birth and growth of public service broadcasting, the development of commercial broadcasting and the rapid growth of digital and internet platforms and the multimedia possibilities that exist within the broadcast sector. Students develop creative sensibilities, an understanding of the differences between the various broadcast platforms and skills for developing and pitching programme ideas.
Media A Critical Introduction - taught at level 4 this module introduces the students to key debates in media studies and to ways of thinking critically about media and their engagement with media, providing a foundation for their future studies. It creates opportunities for them to develop their understanding of the central concepts and theories in media studies, enabling them to examine the relationship between media, culture and society from a variety of perspectives.
Analysing Media: Industry, Texts and Audiences - taught at level 5 this module explores the three sites at which media meanings are made and on which media analysis can be focused: the media industry, in which meanings are ‘encoded’; the content of the media text or message itself; and the site of audiencing, where texts are‘decoded’. We trace the route of various media texts through these sites, and apply research methods and theories that are appropriate within each context.
Please send expressions of interest with CV to Joanna MacDonnell, Principal Lecturer, School of Art, Design and Media, University of Brighton in Hastings [log in to unmask]
Closing date September 1st 2015.
