Good Afternoon All,
*Apologies for cross posting*
I would like to highlight an article available on Emerald Group Publishing’s website by John Wheatcroft titled ‘Academic libraries in the age of the consumer’, which may be of interest to you.
In this article, John explores the ways in which students expectations of libraries have changed over the past two decades; how students now learn in a much more informal and interactive way; and how libraries are aligning with these changes.
Representatives from York and Hull Universities discuss the developments they have made during a time in which fees have raised students’ expectations and university libraries are often seen as a hygiene factor in a student’s decision making process.
Wheatcroft also discusses the issues around the green and gold open access routes and how York University has addressed the issue.
If you would like to read the article in full and find out why one senior York academic considers that libraries have a lot in common with gyms, you can find it here: http://bit.ly/1EdEVJG
