The collection contains all of the Transactions volumes published from 1874 up to 2006, with the years 2007-2014 articles available in Abstract form.
The Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian and Archaeological Society was founded in 1866. The Society first published its Transactions (TCWAAS) in 1874. Fifteen volumes were published up to 1900 and from then it became an annual publication. Each volume of TCWAAS contains a collection of edited papers on various topics relating to both the history and the archaeology of the area.
In early years the contents consisted of reports of the activities of the Society, excursions and proceedings, together with papers read at the meetings, but over time the 'business' sections have been dropped and the volumes now consist of more specialised papers and notes on historical and archaeological subjects.
Individual papers and notes are refereed or peer-reviewed and cover all aspects of 'past life' in the old counties of Cumberland and Westmorland and Lancashire North of the Sands - the present day Cumbria.
