Job Purpose
Archives Sector Development (ASD) is the main focus for The National Archives' leadership of the archives sector. We operate in four teams (Programmes, Engagement, Private Archives, Collections Knowledge) working closely and flexibly together and with other specialists around The National Archives. Team members have focused roles but are expected to build an understanding of the work of the whole department so that archive professionals and strategic stakeholders see coherence in our leadership. We aspire to be connected, informed, innovative, challenging and supportive and to deliver excellent and cost-effective services and programmes that benefit services and their customers, and improve the archival health of the nation.

This is an exciting time for The National Archives as it fully develops its role as lead of the archives sector. Our vision for archives is set out in the government policy, Archives for the 21st Century with a focus on developing a sustainable and resilient archives sector.

The post provides an exciting opportunity to develop our regional leadership of the archives sector. The role will involve working in complex situations, using analysis and creative approaches to support sector development. * Help formulate or identify policy and guidance to support key areas of sector development, and to be a conduit of advice and good practice from within The National Archives and across the wider archives sector

* Work collaboratively with other members of the Engagement Team, and colleagues across The National Archives to ensure sharing of good practice and innovation across regions and to build a culture of skills sharing and knowledge transfer between team members
