Dear All,
The National Archives Commissioning Pilot - Final Learning Set
Monday 7th September
12.30pm-4pm (lunch and registration 12.30pm - 1.00pm)
The National Archives
This final learning set is open to all who are interested in the process and outcomes of this phase of The National Archives support around commissioning, not just those who have participated so far. Commissioning is a central part of the approach to transformation and redesign of local government services, because it offers a means of joining up resources to focus on improving outcomes for individuals and communities.
This pilot aimed to test a commissioning approach with two local authority archive services (Dorset History Centre and Greater Manchester Archives and Local Studies Partnership), through a project to mentor and support the archive services to get ready for commissioning and was partly designed to demonstrate active next steps and to probe whether commissioning is a viable route for archives. As well as testing the waters with services keen to innovate and helping them to navigate a route through commissioning, this project looked at the value of commissioning as a process to Archives and has fostered a network of interested services. It aimed to promote awareness in the archives sector of the commissioning process, the language and terminology, and to generate thinking around how archives might engage with other public services through commissioning.
The final learning set is your chance to share learning from the project and will allow The National Archives to work with the sector to consider future support activity in this area.
